QUALIFICATIONS

Previous training or experience at an accredited Child Care Center preferred. 

Additional courses or training in education would be advantageous. 

An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities

Patience and excellent communication, observational, planning, and organizational skills. 



REQUIRED ON THE JOB TRAINING

Medicaid, First Aid/CPR, Medication/Feeding/Changing, Internet Modules

Additional courses or training in education will be required.  

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they are in the classroom environment. Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued. Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on trust. 

 

DISTRICT AND SCHOOL PRIORITY ALIGNMENT

Evaluated based on the efficacy of aligned actions. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates as a member of an instructional team including remediation teams.

Prepares and organizes lessons according to STARS guidelines.

Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior; checks and assists students in gift sessions as necessary.

Performs routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operates copy machines; maintains classroom records; maintains attendance records.

Prepares the day by setting up work areas; displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating 

educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.

Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.  

Confers, as needed, with Administrators concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.

Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.

Directs group activities of students as assigned; assists in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned; assists in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.

Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.

Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.

Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance. 

Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics.

Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may by request by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.

Laws, rules and statutory regulations related to assigned activities.

Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.

Pedagogy and technical aspects of the field of specialty.

Prioritize and schedule work. 

Knowledge and Application of the Preschool Kentucky Academic Standards

Knowledgeable of and able to demonstrate the ECERS-3 subscales

Knowledgeable of the KY ALL STARS rating Scale

Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Basic record-keeping techniques. Print and write legibly.

Learn child guidance principles and practices.

Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff and the community

Understand and follow verbal and written directions.

Work cooperatively with others.

Monitor, observe and report student’s behavior according to approved policies and procedures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. 

Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.

Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.

Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.

Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. 

Requires indoor and outdoor activity.
