QUALIFICATIONS
|
Hold a valid license to practice as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN), issued under KRS 314.051 or KRS 314.041 by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
|
Hold a Valid Kentucky driver's license.
|
Current BLS certification.
|
POSITION SUMMARY
|
Perform specialized nursing services within scope of practice relating to student health in a school setting.
|

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
|
Perform duties as assigned in the absence of the School Nurse.
|
Maintain current standards of nursing and adhere to the appropriate code of ethics.
|
Provide care to students and staff presenting with acute illness or injury in accordance with nursing scope of practice and/or standing orders. Wear appropriate PPE at all times. Ensure accurate documentation of care provided.
|
Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students, including but not limited to physical examinations and immunizations as required by law. Follow procedures when records are invalid or deficient. Utilize KYIR. Generate regular compliance reports.
|
Serve as a liaison and advocate for student health in communication between school personnel, family, health care professionals, and the community.
|
In accordance with scope of practice and state laws, train and delegate to unlicensed school personnel the administration of medication and/or delivery of health services to students, as ordered by a licensed healthcare provider.
|
Coordinate care of chronic conditions and formulate student emergency action plans related to diabetes, seizures, asthma, allergies, etc. . Administration of daily medication and/or treatments as ordered by a licensed health care provider.
|
Ensure appropriate exclusion for infectious illnesses and reporting of communicable diseases as required by law.
|
Conduct a variety of health screenings, including but not limited to vision, hearing, dental and substance use.
|
Refer students to appropriate personnel, health care providers, resources, or clinics and follow-up as necessary.
|
Participate in health awareness activities.
|
Assist in the preparation of health reports as assigned.
|
Provide oversight of individual school medicaid billing for health services.
|
Attend staff meetings, continuing education activities, and other training(s) as assigned.
|
